Sir Nigel Gresley Experiences
Dates
8 - 12 October 2025
Join Sir Nigel Gresley at the watercress line this october!
Enjoy these exciting and some unprecendented experiences with this iconic locomotive! Â
60007 ‘Sir Nigel Gresley‘ was one of 35 LNER A4 Class Pacific locomotives built in October 1937 at Doncaster works for use on the East Coast main line between Kings Cross and Edinburgh.
This suite of experiences celebrates the relationship between Sir Nigel Gresley, the designer, with Oliver Bulleid, his assistant and designer of our Merchant Navy Canadian Pacific, and the bond between Master and Apprentice.
Originally numbered as 4498 was the 100th Pacific locomotive designed by Gresley and was named in honour of the man who gave us these world-famous streamlined locomotives.
With the formation of British Railways in 1948 the locomotive was renumbered to 60007, and later in 1959 became the post war steam record holder by running at 112 mph.
We are extremely grateful to the Sir Nigel Gresley Locomotive Preservation Trust and to Locomotive Services for the loan of this iconic locomotive, who hasn’t visited The Watercress Line for 19 years!

Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book.
It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged.
